Maestro



Dr. Theodore DeCorso, clarinetist, has concertized in major forums throughout the world. He was featured at Carnegie Recital Hall in two concerts celebrating music from Alaska and was soloist with the Arctic Chamber Orchestra in its tour of the Peoples Republic of China. 


He is Professor Emeritus in Music at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he taught for 25 years before retiring and moving to Florida. He now teaches at the University of Tampa. 

His solo tour of Europe included recitals in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Vienna, Hamburg, Milan and The Hague and he performed at prestigious International Clarinet Society forums in London and Seattle. Clarinet concerto performances include collaboration with the Fairbanks, Western Kentucky, University of Hawaii, Juneau and Daytona Beach Symphonies. 

DeCorso's saxophone performance on the sound track of the public television documentary "Make Prayers to the Raven" was broadcast on PBS, BBC, and German Public Television and his clarinet work has been heard on the PBS broadcast "Performance Today" and on Karl Haas' "Adventures in Good Music". 

He was clarinetist with the music drama "Coyote", by composer John Luther Adams, in performances in Alaska, at Dartmouth University and on tour in New England. 

As a conductor, Dr. DeCorso served for four years as music director of the Fairbanks (Alaska) Youth Orchestra and has conducted the Fairbanks Symphony and Arctic Chamber Orchestras in Alaska and Spain. In the area of music theater he has directed Leonard Bernstein's "Trouble in Tahiti", Sondheim's "Into the Woods" and "A Little Night Music" and the Broadway shows "Guys and Dolls" and "South Pacific". He currently is Music Director of the Clearwater Community Band.
